Md3 Cable Plough by Smd Hydrovision, The multi-depth plough is the latest in ploughing technology. All of the features of the ‘standard cable plough’ (SCP) are retained, plus a wide range of new features. With its evolutionary design, it guarantees reliable, safe burial of your cable with its low pull, high protection share designs and power steering system for low residual tension. The MD3 adds the ability to trench up to 3 metres deep in progressively softer seabed conditions, providing a cable protection profile matched to that of likely threats in line with the industry concept of Burial Protection Index (BPI). Since threats to the cable (fishing, small anchors) will penetrate the seabed progressively deeper as the seabed weakens, then the cable protection should match this. These ploughs achieve the exacting requirements by maintaining a constant tow force capacity at all trench depths without compromising cable handling, plough stability or any other plough features. Where deep burial is a requirement in yet firmer soils, the ploughs are available with jet assist options. The higher pull capability HD3 provides double the cable protection of the MD3 and increased burial depths. The MD3 features can be summarised as follows: Burial Protection Index of 1 maintained from 1 metre through to 3 metres Over 150,000 kms of cable protected using the SMD plough Highly developed and highly reliable: over 99% availability Maximum cable protection using patented trenching system Low residual cable tension using powerful patented steering system Low Weight of 20 tonnes enables handling from existing cable ships fitted with SMD Aframes Stable in all conditions, cable into bellmouth close to seabed for best and safest handling of cables and repeaters Minimum share width reduces cable burial tow forces and improves quality of burial Repeater buried using share ‘flaps’ Simple towing and handling from a single rope Forms part of the spread of SMD cable ship equipment, including control system, umbilical system, towing and handling systems. Cable engines and hipboard control.
